"I'll attempt to do a series of semi-realistic portraits of the original 12 Street Fighter II characters. I'm going to redesign their look, but I'll try to remain true to what defines them. The goal is to make them look like real street fighters or something that could work in a movie."
I detected a hint of provocation in your comment, so I'll explain this the best way I can. Dave Rapoza has been a great influence on my work, which shouldn't be surprising considering how his tutorials are some of the first videos I used when I wanted to learn how to paint in Photoshop. I credited him multiple times, linked other people back to his profile, his study group and his YouTube channel. These Street Fighter portraits are just a fun way for me to get better at painting from imagination and to help me get more exposure. I didn't steal anything from Dave nor do I intend to profit from these portraits. I suggest you stop worrying about Dave not being credited enough and concentrate on your own work.
First of all, any tone of "provocation" was something you assumed. Secondly I commented because I saw an article which linked to work that looked like a copy of dave's with absolutely no mention of his name; to make sure I wasn't jumping to conclusions I took a quick look at your profile and there was still no mention of Dave. I understand and in-fact have always been in support of emulating your favourite artist as part of the learning process but I think you should always mention their name when that's the case. There's a big issue of you harming their career - even un-intentionally - when you don't do so. Obviously this is a sensitive issue for you but even so, a backhanded insult is not professional behaviour.
Judging by your response, I think I assumed correctly. Since I already addressed Dave's influence on this series in my previous post, let me make something perfectly clear. Dave didn't draw Blanka. I did. Making a semi-realistic portrait of a well known video game character is not something Dave invented (he made it popular on DA though). I'm sure Dave would be impressed with your efforts to protect his livelihood, but there is exactly zero percent chance of me harming his career. I don't think I insulted you in my previous comment. I didn't berate you or your work. I just gave you a suggestion. The professionalism of my behavior is something that is up to my clients to decide upon, not you. When you make a comment like: "You need to credit dave rapoza more", you are being purposefully annoying. You didn't comment on the quality of the work. You weren't being constructive or helpful. You're just trying to sound smart, get on Dave's good side, or drum up some DA popularity. You can keep fighting this imaginary crusade of yours all you want. I'm done explaining myself to you. Happy new year.
